2 drug peddlers arrested: Police | KNO

Srinagar, Oct 25 (KNO): In a significant action against drug menace, J&K Police on Saturday said to have arrested two drug peddlers in Pulwama & Shopian and recovered contraband substances from their possession. In Pulwama, a police party led by SHO Police Station Kakapora at a checkpoint established at Pahoo Gundipora Crossing intercepted a vehicle (i-10) bearing registration number JK01N/5539, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). The driver, as per the spokesman, has been identified as Bilal Ahmad Sofi, son of Abdul Rehman Sofi, resident of Summerbug Lasjan. During the checking, police said 41 grams of Charas-like contraband substance was recovered from the dash box of the vehicle. “The accused was arrested on the spot, and the vehicle used in the commission of the crime was also seized. In this connection, a case FIR No. 67/2025 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act stands registered at Police Station Kakapora and investigation has been taken up,” police said. In Shopian, a Police party of Police Station Imamsahib at a checkpoint established at Hillow Handew crossing, intercepted a suspicious person who on seeing naka party tried to flee from the spot and was apprehended tactfully, the spokesman said and identified him as Ab Majeed Chopan resident of Frasdab, Charishreef Budgam. During the search, 09 Sticks of charas like substance weighing approximately 328 grams were recovered from his possession and was subsequently arrested. Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 33/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Imamsahib and investigations have been initiated. “We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact the nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said—(KNO)
